Personality of the Week

Idunnu Tokurah has been an active member of the community since she moved to Manitoba in 2011. She is a Canadian trained first class neuroscientist, and has always had a passion for business and real estate on the side. Idunnu decided to make the big leap to follow her passion for real estate and she has so far courageously navigated the Manitoba real estate industry.

This town hall is a safe space to discuss antiBlack racism school support.

It can be tricky to identify the signs of institutional racism and when you do, it is just as hard to know how to take action to combat it. This is the third and final session discussing anti-Black racism in the education system, and is dedicated to providing practical resources on where to find the support needed to fight against racism in schools.

Come learn about our character-based loan and how it can help you complete your qualification recognition process.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month

Manitoba Health is encouraging Manitobans to take steps to help protect against tick bites and Lyme disease.

It is also important for people to be aware of the signs and symptoms of tick-borne diseases including anaplasmosis, babesiosis or Lyme disease. A list of symptoms for these tick-borne diseases can be found at www.gov.mb.ca/health/publichealth/cdc/tickborne/index.html.

People should contact a health-care provider if they think they may have a tick-borne disease. For more information, individuals can also contact Health Links-Info Santé at 204-788-8200 or (toll-free) 1-888 315-9257.

The Public Health Dietitians are still running the virtual Feeding Baby Solid Foods Workshop 1-2 times per month. This workshop is free to attend, and is great for families with babies 4-6 months old who are getting ready to start solid foods. Anxiety & Depression Informational Session

Sara Riel is hosting an Anxiety & Depression Informational Session on May 29th from 6-7PM at 545 Watt Street.

This presentation serves as an introduction to those wanting to learn more about anxiety and/or depression and how it might be affecting them or their loved ones.

The presentation will include:

  1. An introduction to Depression and Anxiety and definitions
  2. Possible symptoms of each mental illness how they can co-exist
  3. Risk factors for each mental illness
  4. How to help someone with depression/anxiety yourself or others
  5. Resources for help

Registration is still open to the community and is required for attendance.

Communities 4 Families- Grants up for grabs

Communities 4 Families is pleased to provide small grants for agencies working with downtown families to support programming for parenting courses and parent-child programs.  These grants are up to $2000 for 6-8 week programs.
