Historic Progress for Bill 22: The Celebration of Nigerian Independence Day Act

We are overjoyed to share this momentous news with our vibrant Nigerian community in Manitoba. Bill 22, The Celebration of Nigerian Independence Day Act, has not just passed the committee stage, but it has done so successfully! This achievement is a giant leap towards our province’s official recognition and celebration of Nigerian Independence Day, a day that holds immense significance for all of us.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to Deputy Premier Uzoma Asagwara for her unwavering commitment to championing this important legislation. Equally, we commend our community elders, organizations, leaders, and youth for their remarkable turnout and powerful testimonies during the committee stage. As the Deputy Premier said, Your voices were not just heard, but they were the driving force behind the significance of Bill 22. This Act is a testament to our collective strength and unity.

A particularly memorable moment was when attendees had the opportunity to sign a copy of the Bill commemorating this historic achievement. This act of unity and collective pride symbolizes our shared journey and the importance of this legislation.

We are now just one final step away from this Act becoming law in Manitoba. This recognition will honour our rich cultural heritage and strengthen the bonds within our community, celebrating the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Nigerians in Manitoba.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who participated in the committee process and to the entire community for your unwavering support. Bill 22 truly belongs to all of us.

Stay tuned for further updates as we move toward the final approval of this landmark legislation. We continue to make history and celebrate our shared identity and heritage.

AN UNFORGETABLE MOTHER’S DAY EVENT 2024

NAMI Celebrates Mother’s Day with Sparkle and Style! Nigerian mothers in Manitoba were treated to a day of pampering and entertainment, courtesy of NAMI’s special Mother’s Day event. The day started with a heartwarming movie date featuring the film ‘Sparkle,’ where mothers indulged in popcorn and drinks while enjoying the captivating storyline.

‘Sparkle’ is a musical drama that follows the journey of three sisters who dream of making it big in the music industry. The movie is filled with soulful performances and inspiring moments. It resonated deeply with our mothers, highlighting themes of love, resilience, and chasing one’s dreams.

Following the movie screening, the festivities continued with a touch of luxury as the mothers embarked on a delightful limousine ride to Salad Masters’ special brunch. Surrounded by elegance and fine cuisine, the mothers savoured every moment of the exquisite brunch, creating cherished memories together.

The day was a testament to NAMI’s commitment to celebrating and honouring the incredible mothers within our community. We extend our heartfelt thanks, not just as a formality, but with deep appreciation, to all who contributed to making this event a resounding success.
