The premier edition of the Manitoba Immigrant Excellence Merit Awards (MIEMAS) 2024, held on November 2, 2024 in Winnipeg, was a remarkable event celebrating immigrant changemakers who are making a difference across various sectors in Manitoba. Organized by Olawunmi Sola-Otegbade, founder of SWIFTE Radio, the event received support from NAMI, ACOMI, Babsoma Communications, Nigerians in Winnipeg, and numerous community organizations.

Olawunmi expressed the mission behind the awards, saying, “Our goal is to spotlight and celebrate those who make Manitoba a better place through their dedication and hard work.” The event honoured several outstanding individuals, including Deputy Premier Uzoma Asagwara for advocacy and political leadership, Titi Tijani for her commitment to community initiatives, Dr. Lana Adeleye-Olusae for His contribution to Human Resources and Community Leadership and Hon. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Chief Jim Ogunnoiki, in recognition of his years of dedicated service to the community.
