Volunteer Spotlight: Ebunoluwa.

Ebunoluwa: Creating Community Through Service, Creativity, and Adventure

For Ebunoluwa Oluwatunmise, service isn’t just something she does:  it’s a reflection of who she is. From a young age in Nigeria, she watched her parents lead by example as lifelong volunteers, showing her that true impact begins with a willing heart and consistent action.

Three years ago, Ebunoluwa moved from the shores of Nigeria to Winnipeg, Manitoba, alongside her husband and daughter, embracing a new season of life in a new land.

She soon became part of the Nigerian Association of Manitoba Inc. (NAMI) and has served on the Publicity Team for over two years.

Beyond her service work, Ebunoluwa is a passionate photographer and clothier, blending artistic vision with cultural pride. She captures moments that tell deeper stories with clothing that reflects identity, confidence, and elegance.

But her love for life doesn’t stop there. Ebunoluwa thrives in the great outdoors. Whether she’s riding her bike, taking long reflective walks, or exploring new places, she finds joy and clarity in nature. Travel, discovery, and time outside have become part of her rhythm and a way to stay inspired, grounded, and connected to the world around her.

Today, Ebunoluwa continues to balance her roles as a creative, a mother, a volunteer, and an adventurer. Through it all, her purpose remains clear: to serve with heart, create with intention, and live with joy.

CELEBRATING HERITAGE IN PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE

The Nigerian community in Portage la Prairie recently hosted a vibrant Cultural Day celebration that beautifully showcased the richness of Nigerian heritage. This inspiring event brought together families, friends, and supporters from across the region to enjoy a day filled with traditional attire, music, dance, and delicious Nigerian cuisine.

From the colorful displays of cultural fashion to the energetic performances by children and adults alike, the celebration was a true reflection of the community’s pride and unity. Elders shared stories of Nigeria’s diverse history, while youth participated in cultural games and performances that bridged generations.

This event is a shining example of how Nigerians in smaller Manitoba communities continue to preserve their roots and strengthen community ties. As a valued part of the larger NAMI family, the Portage la Prairie chapter continues to inspire us with their dedication to cultural pride and inclusion.

We commend the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who participated in making this day a memorable success. Together, we continue to celebrate who we are, no matter where we are.
