NIGERIA @ 65 – MEGA INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION!

On the 4th of October, we congregated at Alloway Hall in celebration of Nigeria’s independence. The theme of the event-Colors of the Nation, was on full display as we had attendees present in the splendous colors of our Nation. The fashion parade was the culmination of the celebration of the colours of our nation, as participants regaled us in a kaleidoscope of colours reminiscent of a proper Nigerian party.

Some key highlights of the event include the attendance of the Deputy Premier, Uzoma Asagwara, and the Mayor of Winnipeg, Scott Gillingham. The President, Obehi Vera Keyede, in her speech, advised that we bear the colors of our country with pride and Mr Sylverster, former NAMI president in his speech, urged that we Nigerians not only learn to live in pride but also learn how to exist harmoniously.

The event featured an appearance by Pasuma, preceding his performance at the after-party. The success of the event is owed in part to DJ Agbara for keeping the music going and the hosting brilliance of Queen Rita and MC Freeman.

We hold this event every year, and all of the thanks for how successful it pans out goes to you, the Nigerians in Manitoba, who come out year after year to celebrate our great country. We hope to see more of you in a year.

NIGERIA @ 65 – Flag Raising Ceremony!

This year marked the second year that Nigeria’s independence has been recognized and celebrated at the highest level of governance in the province, with the Flag Raising ceremony that was held at the Legislative building.

In attendance at the event were the Deputy Premier, Uzoma Asagwara, and the NAMI President, Obehi Vera Keyede, as well as other dignitaries in the state and from our association.

The Government of Manitoba Offers Rebate for Home Security

Home security is an important aspect of homeownership; this is why Manitoba is offering a home security rebate programme. This was created a year ago and has helped to reduce the cost of home security upgrades, helping the citizens of our great province keep themselves and their families safe

Exciting Developments for Car Owners

Driving is a huge part of the culture in Manitoba and to ensure that drivers are using the highways safely, the government has made some updates. There are new signs that offer real-time update on the traffic and road conditions on the highway as you drive, which is especially beneficial for the upcoming season. Asides from the signs, 19 new cameras have been introduced.

To see what highways have received these upgrades please visit this link.

This is not all that is new for car owners. Car insurance can be a pain on your pocket, especially when you go months without needing it. It is pertinent that these rates remain fair and affordable. Earlier this month,  on the 6th, the government passed legislation that made this possible under the current MPI model, which ensures car insurance in the province remains publicly run and affordable.
