Hello February!
We’re officially stepping into February the shortest month of the year but packed with meaning, energy, and opportunities to connect as a community. This month is a gentle reminder to slow down, check in on one another, and intentionally spread love through kind words, support, laughter, and community.
February also gives us space to celebrate culture, voices, and shared stories—the experiences that shape who we are and strengthen our collective identity. It’s a time to honour where we come from, amplify our stories, and continue building bridges across communities here in Manitoba.
There’s a lot happening this month! From the City of Winnipeg–hosted programs and community events to Government of Manitoba initiatives, forums, and cultural engagements, February is packed with opportunities to learn, connect, and show up. We encourage members to stay plugged in, attend events where possible, and represent with pride. Keep an eye on official City of Winnipeg and Manitoba government platforms for dates, updates, and ways to participate.
As always, let’s lead with love, celebrate our culture boldly, and make space for every voice in our community. February is short but let’s make it meaningful.

Dr. Bolaji ShinEs the Light all the way from Brandon
This month, we’re shining the spotlight on an inspiring member of our community—Dr. Bolaji, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Leadership and Educational Administration, Faculty of Education at Brandon University.
Dr. Bolaji’s work is rooted in purpose and impact. Her teaching and research focus on educational leadership for social justice, international education, educational finance, and creating learning environments where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. With rich teaching, leadership, and community-based research experience spanning Nigeria, England, and Canada, she brings a truly global perspective to the classroom—grounded in student-centered learning and culturally responsive pedagogy.
Beyond academia, Dr. Bolaji is a passionate advocate for international students, actively engaging with community partners and student organizations to support meaningful inclusion and success. At Brandon University, she teaches graduate-level courses such as Leading Collaborative Learning Communities, Supervisory Policy and Practice, Educational Finance, and Overview of Educational Issues, equipping future leaders with the tools to lead with empathy, collaboration, and vision.
When she’s not teaching or researching, you’ll likely find Dr. Bolaji unwinding with a good movie, a great book, or in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes. She is excited to continue contributing to Manitoba’s academic landscape and looks forward to connecting with students, colleagues, and the wider community.
We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Bolaji and the meaningful impact she continues to make!
Celebrating Dr. Jude
The Nigerian Association of Manitoba is proud to extend warm congratulations to Dr. Jude on his selection by Rotary International District 5550 covering all of Manitoba, most of Saskatchewan, and parts of Ontario to serve in district leadership. This is a remarkable milestone and a moment of pride for our entire community.
Dr. Jude will begin this leadership journey as District Governor Nominee, advance to Governor Elect, and officially assume office as District Governor on July 1, 2028. His selection marks a historic and inspiring step forward, reflecting the growing recognition of diverse voices and leadership within one of the world’s most respected service organizations.
Rotary International is globally renowned for its commitment to service, leadership development, and peace building. Founded in 1905 in Chicago, Rotary played a pivotal role in the creation of the United Nations in 1945. Today, Rotary clubs continue to make impact worldwide through initiatives focused on peace and conflict prevention, disease prevention and treatment, basic education and literacy, maternal and child health, water and sanitation, and economic and community development. The organization also offers numerous leadership development opportunities and scholarships for young people.
Dr. Jude’s achievement is not only personal it is a call to community. We encourage members and friends to consider engaging with or joining Rotary Clubs in solidarity and service, and to support this important journey of leadership and representation.
Once again, congratulations, Dr. Jude. We celebrate this well-deserved recognition and look forward to the positive impact ahead!
