Independence Day Celebration
We are only 3 months away from our Independence Day celebration. This year offers something a little bit extra as we will also be celebrating the 40th anniversary of our beloved association. It has been 4 decades of community and the celebration of our culture, year in year out and is a feat that deserves not only acknowledgement but celebration as well.
So, we implore you to join us on the 3rd of October; come ready to have a great time celebrating Nigeria and NAMI.
NAMI Annual Family Picnic 2026
Our honored Summer tradition is here. We invite you to the NAMI 2026 family Picnic. As this is a free event, all you will need are mats or lawn chairs, your family and friends, an empty stomach and dancing shoes. You will also be required to have a great time. We will have music, food, and games for both adults and kids.

The Umunna Igbo Cultural Association of Manitoba Inc. invites you to a vibrant celebration of heritage and abundance at the Iri Ji New Yam Festival. This is a prime opportunity to witness Sovereign Storytelling through traditional dance, entertainment, and a profound display of our visual heritage.

National Black Canadians Summit
The 5th edition of the Black Canadians summit is here. The 3-day event will be taking place on the 18th to 20th of September. The theme for this year is “Moving forward Together” and it expresses the commitment of Black Canadians to the pursuit of progress in Canada, especially in the face of racial discrimination with the goal of eradicating discrimination caused by racial bias.
Attendance is free for ages 18-30. You can find more details on the summit here
Free Summer Activities
Every year for six months, we get a reprieve from the winter and are able to spend some time in the sun. The city recognizes how important this is and has made arrangements that cater to both kids and adults; all of these events are free and are a great time to wind down or have some good old-fashioned family fun.
Aim to attend at least one free event. Your taxes help to plan these; enjoy some of that money.
Career Exploration Summer Camp
Now that school is out and the kids have more free time, it will be a great chance to introduce the children you know to possible career choices for their future. Career Trek is offering a career exploration camp for students in Grades 9-12. This will feature hand-on exposure to different career paths, including connecting with professionals and learning about future opportunities in any career path they are interested in. The camp will be run on a weekly basis on 3 different weeks in July and August.

The NAMI Socials department NAMI is calling for volunteers who are interested in supporting ongoing social activities through out the year. You will assist with the planning and execution of social events and help drive community participation.

Ballet in The Park
In the spirit of finding free and fun things to do, you can attend the Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet performance in Assiniboine Park running from July 28-30. This is a chance to catch professional ballet dancers completely for free. The event starts at 6:30 PM, which is after working hours, and you can make a picnic of it with family or friends while you enjoy the show.

NAMI Scholarship
NAMI appreciates a model that guarantees funds to the scholarship for our youth in perpetuity. We sincerely thank those who have donated, and we also encourage others to do the same. All year round, we encourage people in our community to visit The Winnipeg Foundation website to donate with a minimum of $10 to NAMI Scholarship Fund at the link here to support our community youth education which was inaugurated last year. “Make this donation in celebration, honour or memory of someone.” Thank you!
