LET’S CONTINUE TO SUPPORT NAMI SCHOLARHIP FUND, THANK YOU!

NAMI appreciates a model that guarantees funds to the scholarship for our youth in perpetuity. We sincerely thank those who have donated, and we also encourage others to do the same. All year round, we encourage people in our community to visit The Winnipeg Foundation website to donate with a minimum of $10 to NAMI Scholarship Fund at the link here to support our community youth education which was inaugurated last year. “Make this donation in celebration, honour or memory of someone.” Thank you! https://www.mycharitytools.com/gift/wpgfdn/donate?fund=1077

PERSONALITY OF THE WEEK

We celebrate our own member here in Manitoba making a great feat in our community. Congratulations to Mr. Ayodele Odeyemi (aka AY-De-Senator) who has been rewarded for his hard work with his recent appointment as Community Reporter at CBC News Manitoba Pathways Project.

Ayodele Odeyemi is a Nigerian-born Canadian based in Winnipeg. He is the founder and media manager of Africanad, an online platform for African-Canadians. While Ayodele has a background in science – his first degree was in clinical chemistry and his Masters of Science degree was in clinical immunology – Ayodele’s passion is for journalism and storytelling. Mr. Odeyemi also recently produced a short film titled “The Hidden Emotion”, about mental health stigma in the Black community in Winnipeg.

In his words, Odeyemi said, “I’m Proud to be one of CBC Manitoba’s new project called Pathways – a full-time, paid, five-month development opportunity for Indigenous, Black or people of colour to gain experience working in our newsroom. The program is led by Executive Producer, @nskidwai

Thanks @CBCManitoba.”

Odeyemi remains a very vibrant voice in our community and of course, a person to reckon with when it comes to social media visibility. Late last year, Odeyemi was honored and won recognition among the top 10 Nigerian professionals in our community in the 2021 at a virtual award ceremony organized by the Nigerian Professionals In Manitoba (NPIM), an affiliate of NAMI.

Each week participants will join in on a Zoom call with the instructor Ben Williams and a professional guest mentor from the industry. The topics will range from independent filmmaking, how to get into Manitoba’s film industry – creating, producing and distributing a film; along with various aesthetic and technical skills. We will conduct an independent study lab where each filmmaker makes their own movie on their smartphone and has the chance to screen their film at the final session.
