Personality of the week – Meet Nengi Offurum

Nengi Offurum hails from Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the Rivers State of Nigeria in West Africa. She has ventured into different side hustles from selling shoes to running a social media business to incorporating Black Women Owned Inc.

She has lived the experience of the challenges Black women face when running a business and that has birthed Black Women Owned, an organization that gives Black women and gender diverse people visibility and empowerment, she has a deep passion for supporting people. She is the founder of Black Women Owned Inc., ​​an organization that welcomes people from all walks of life to support, collaborate and empower black women.

Nengi uses her platform to create visibility for brands by sharing ideas, providing mentorship and support systems. Black women owned is her personal passion project and with that she has been able to connect several black women owned businesses and raise social and economic awareness on the discourse of buying black.

Offurum is in her fourth year of studying Communications and Media at CMU. She is also head of Spurt 365, her social media and branding agency, and works as a hairstylist from her home salon, Nengi Natural.

Offurum was nominated for RevolutionHer’s Impact in Leadership Award for her work on BWO, and was one of 24 finalists chosen from across Canada and the United States.

Community BBQ on Canada Day

The Black Manitobans Chamber of Commerce

It was an afternoon of endless networking, insightful conversations, delicious food and cocktails as dignitaries from all over the city came out in support for Black women owned brands in Manitoba.

The Winnipeg Pop-Up is an event worth remembering because of all the positive, supportive and empowered people who were a part of it.

The speakers inspired and educated the audience as they spoke on their lived experiences and success stories in their fields.

Minister of Health, MLA. Audrey Gordon shared more about her life in business beyond politics and shed light on why it is necessary to never give up.

MLA. Uzoma Asagwara shared a motivatal speech and her commitment to support black women in ways that she can.

The Black Manitobans Chamber of Commerce whose mission is to A.C.E.E was a

part of the Winnipeg Pop-Up. Dr. Zita Somakoko empowered guests with her founding story and lived experience.

The workshops from Camille Sylvester and Sekinat Balogun were educational and informative. Camille talked about the Seven Secrets of an Irresistible Woman while Sekinat talked about the Basics of Budgeting.

Felicita Ovadje, one of the vendors at the Winnipeg Pop-Up talked about her

experience before she became a lawyer and why she still continued with running a retail beauty business even after becoming a lawyer. She gave advice on running successful individual businesses.

It was the laughter, smile and support that was the highlight of the day.
