Personality of the week – Celebrating Abiodun Oke

Abiodun Oke, SCMP, PMP is a coach, a mentor, an instructor, and a supply chain management consultant. He is very passionate about professional development and transformational leadership in procurement, supply chain, and project management functions.

Abiodun Oke obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. Abiodun Oke has worked as a Contract Supervisor at the Shell Petroleum Development, Port Harcourt, Nigeria and Contracts Engineer on the Total E & P Usan FPSO Project before immigrating to Canada in 2011.

In Canada, Abiodun Oke started working in his profession with the Manitoba Housing and the University of Manitoba for 6 years as a Category Lead for Research & Sciences projects before transitioning to self-employment projects in 2018.

Abiodun Oke is the founder of the Cerial Projects Services and the creator of the SupplyJobs Canada Network, a platform for mentoring and coaching foreign-trained supply chain, operations and project management professionals across Canada. He has counseled and mentored hundreds of foreign-trained supply chain professionals from different parts of the world, assisting them with resources that nurtured their career growth and professional development, hew was recognized by the Supply Chain Canada in 2020 as one of the immigrant impacting the supply chain profession in Canada.

Abiodun Oke is the current president of the Nigeria Professionals in Manitoba (NPIM). Asides his entrepreneurial projects where he consults on Supply Chain transformation projects through Cerial Projects Services Inc, he’s an adjunct professor of Logistics & Supply Chain Mgt. at the Red River College.

NAMI has established an endowment fund with the Winnipeg Foundation to support exceptional in-course students enrolled in Manitoba post-secondary institutions. Each of these scholarships will be offered to a student who:

  1. Is a Nigerian citizen that legally lives in Manitoba within the award period;
  2. Is enrolled at a Manitoba post-secondary institution in any field of study;
  3. Is an active member of NAMI and/or its affiliated organization(s);
  4. Has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of0 out of 4.5 for university/ college students and 70% minimum cut-off mark for high school students;
  5. Has not received the award within 1 year prior to the application.
  6. Not dependent on applicant’s financial need.

Application process is as follows:

  1. All students who meet the above prerequisites can apply;
  2. All applications will be considered based on academic performance and active membership in NAMI and/or its affiliates;
  3. All applicants shall submit academic reports or transcripts to verify academic performance;
  4. All applicants shall submit a brief biographical essay outlining their community active involvement in community development related activities and contribution to NAMI and/or its affiliates;
  5. Short-listed candidates will, if necessary, be interviewed by member(s) of the scholarship committee;
  6. The decision(s) by the committee shall be final and not subject to an appeal;
  7. Member(s) of NAMI Executive committee may meet with selected awardee(s) prior to receiving the award ceremony.

Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP)

What is CDAP?

The Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP), by the Government of Canada, helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) adopt digital technologies to increase their competitiveness. Eligible businesses will receive a grant2 to build their digital plan, followed by a 0% loan of up to $100,0001 to implement it.

Computers for Life (C4L)

Basic computer training for newcomers with limited English proficiency. Participants receive a free computer after completing the 4-week course. Eligibility/cost: Open to all. Free. Interpreters and childminding may be provided.

C4L is a 2-level computer class for beginners. It teaches basic computer skills, such as typing, sending emails, searching info on the Internet, making video calls and more. Each level lasts 4 weeks with classes 2 or 3 times a week. After completing 4 weeks, participants receive a free desktop computer to take home. Anyone except visitors to Canada can participate.
