Happy International Women’s Month to NAMI Women
On the 8th of March, the world once again recognized the importance of women everywhere, and to the women of NAMI, we saw you and the amazing work you did. The theme for this year’s celebration, Give to Gain, highlighted the importance of taking meaningful steps toward advancing gender equality. It reminded us of the invaluable work that the women in our lives performed—for us and for our community.
One way we showed support for the women in the Nigerian community in Manitoba was by attending the She Grows Manitoba event. This event was held on Saturday, the 14th of March, at 460 Munroe Ave., Winnipeg. It started at 1 PM and ended at 6 PM. A portion of the ticket fees was donated to support the Women’s Congress in Manitoba.
Nigerian Celebrated for Impact at CancerCare Manitoba
Mr Sunday is a member of the Environmental Services at CancerCare Manitoba, an organisation he has worked at for more than 20 years. Sunday has been described as being a hard worker who, upon arriving in Canada in 1988, worked 3 jobs at the same time. Regardless of the burden of having 3 jobs, he has remained a beacon of light at his work. Where his joy is so powerful that a simple “Good morning” from him can shift the tone of a day.”
Sunday is an example of what it means to thrive despite the odds of immigration, multiple jobs, including in an industry that caters to people suffering from debilitating illnesses like cancer and other disabilities.
Congratulations to Sunday for this recognition, and we are proud to have such great representations of our great community.
