NIGERIA ASSOCIATION OF MANITOBA (NAMI) SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

On behalf of the Nigerian Association of Manitoba Inc. Scholarship Awards Committee (NAMISAC), I am writing to you on the above-stated subject matter. Few years ago, NAMI established an endowment fund with the Winnipeg Foundation to support students enrolled in Manitoba post-secondary institutions. Thus, each year, as a token of our community contribution to support outstanding students who identify and volunteer with NAMI and its associate organizations, we offer scholarships to a student who:
1. Is a Nigerian citizen that legally lives in Manitoba within the award period.
2. Is enrolled at a Manitoba post-secondary institution in any field of study.
3. Is an active member of NAMI and/or its associated organization(s).
4. Has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.5 for university/ college students and 70% minimum cut-off mark for high school students.
5. Has not received the award within 1 year prior to the application.
The scholarship award is not dependent on the applicant’s financial need.

Application and selection process is as follows:
1. All students who meet the above prerequisites can apply.
2. All applications will be considered based on academic performance and active membership in NAMI and/or its associate organizations.
3. All applicants shall submit academic reports or transcripts to support their academic performance claims.
4. All applicants shall submit a brief biographical essay outlining their active involvement in community activities in Manitoba and contribution to NAMI and/or its associate organizations.
5. All applicants must provide proof of membership of the NAMI or its associate organizations, this could be in form of membership dues payment receipt or a letter from NAMI or its associate organizations.
6. All applicants must provide letters from NAMI or its associate organizations where they have volunteered and hold membership.
7. All short-listed candidates will, if necessary, be interviewed by member(s) of the NAMI Scholarship Awards Committee.
8. The decision(s) by the NAMI Scholarship Committee shall be final and not subject to an appeal; and
9. Member(s) of the NAMI Executive Committee may meet with selected awardee(s) prior to receiving the award ceremony.

In 2024, there will be a SINGLE one-time award for a female international student, studying to be a teacher or Early Childhood Educator.
We hereby send this letter to you to help our NAMI Scholarship Awards Committee disseminate this information to your members using various platforms to connect with any interested students who might want to participate in this year’s scholarship awards. Successful candidates would be recognized and awarded at our forthcoming Nigeria 64th Independence Anniversary celebration on October 5th, 2024.

Interested applicants should forward their application package as email attachments to the following address by 11:59 pm of Friday September 13, 2024: nami.manitoba@gmail.com

Thank you for your community service.
Respectfully,
Vera Obehi Keyede ACA, CMA, CPA, SCMP.

NAMI appreciates a model that guarantees funds to the scholarship for our youth in perpetuity. We sincerely thank those who have donated, and we also encourage others to do same. All year round, we encourage people in our community to visit The Winnipeg Foundation website to donate with a minimum of $10 to NAMI Scholarship Fund at the link here to support our community youth education which was inaugurated in 2021. “Make this donation in celebration, honour or memory of someone.” Thank you! https://www.mycharitytools.com/gift/wpgfdn/donate?fund=1077
