Nigerians Making Waves in Manitoba – Keno Eden-Ettah: When a Career Finds You
Meet Keno Eden-Ettah, a Nigerian professional living in Manitoba whose journey into Human Resources wasn’t planned but became deeply rewarding. Keno was recently featured on Winnipeg Free Press, which tells the story of how fresh out of law school and unsure of her next step, Keno took a chance on a corporate services role , essentially HR under a different name, and never looked back.
Over time, she earned her Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation and grew into leadership roles both locally and globally. Keno emphasizes the “human” side of HR, balancing the needs of employees with organizational goals. Her global experience showed her how HR decisions can shape careers and lives across continents.
Her advice? Be open to unexpected opportunities, even if they don’t seem like a perfect fit at first. Skills and expertise can be learned, but passion and openness to growth are key.
Keno’s story proves that sometimes, the right career path finds you when you least expect it.
The Urhobo and Isoko communities colourful Cultural Day Celebration
The Urhobo and Isoko communities in Manitoba recently lit up the city with a colourful Cultural Day Celebration, showcasing the richness of Nigerian heritage in the diaspora. The event was alive with traditional music, spirited dance, vibrant attire, and authentic delicacies that transported guests back home. It was more than a festival, it was a proud affirmation of identity, unity, and community spirit.
Beyond the cultural display, the celebration also recognized individuals who have made meaningful contributions to strengthening the Nigerian community in Manitoba. Among the honorees was our very own NAMI President, Vera Keyede, who received a distinguished award for her outstanding leadership, tireless advocacy, and dedication to building bridges of collaboration among Nigerians and the wider Canadian society.
This honor extends beyond her personal achievement, it symbolizes NAMI’s shared mission to promote cultural pride, foster representation, and empower our community. It is a testament to what can be achieved when culture and service walk hand in hand.
We commend the Urhobo and Isoko communities for hosting such a remarkable celebration and for creating a platform that not only preserves our traditions but also uplifts leaders and community members who embody the true Nigerian spirit.
As NAMI continues its work, we celebrate this recognition with pride, knowing that together, our diversity strengthens us all.
